MATOS HONORED AS 2021 MILITARY SERVICE AWARD WINNER
Earlier this year, The Kutcher Foundation announced that they would be expanding eligibility for The Col. John F. Kutcher, Sr. Military Service Award. Previously, only students at C. Milton Wright High School had been eligible. Now, graduating seniors from any Harford County High School are eligible as long as they are entering a branch of the military, attending a service academy, or participating in a college ROTC program.
Following an extremely challenging review of the nominees, The Kutcher Foundation is proud to announce that Madison Matos (Joppatowne High School) has been named the 2021 recipient of The Col. John F. Kutcher, Sr. Military Service Award.
Matos has been stellar in the classroom holding a GPA of 4.0 and a class rank of 13. Outside of school, she has interned at the United Stated Army Medical Research Defense, in the science and technology laboratory. There, she worked with both military and civilian personnel learning about chemical defense research.
“I am immensely grateful and truly honored to be a recipient of this award”, said Matos. “Col. Kutcher’s amazing story inspires me to live a life of hard work and diligence in everything I do.”
Following graduation, Matos will be attending The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina and major in something science or mathematics related.
About the Award: Following the passing of Colonel John “Jack” F. Kutcher, Sr. at his home on February 17, 2017, the Kutcher Foundation established this scholarship in his honor to carry on his legacy of service to our community and country. Colonel Kutcher led a life of service, and this award recognizes a graduating student from a Harford County High School who has demonstrated a commitment to service and leadership to our armed forces. The student must be entering military service following graduation by either enlisting full time, joining the national guard, attending a US Service Academy or participating in a college ROTC program. The award carries a $1000 scholarship.
