The Kutcher Foundation is proud to announce that Micah Ensor, a Senior at The John Carroll School, is the 2020 recipient of the Larry Hetzel Volleyball Leadership Award.
Ensor becomes the third recipient of the award, joining Kyle Wedemeyer (2018), and Nico Santoro (2019).
“Winning the Larry Hetzel Volleyball Leadership Award is an honor,” says Ensor. “I was surrounded by amazing teammates through all four years playing John Carroll volleyball, and believe they were the motivation to give my all to the team. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to strengthen my skills as a player, teammate, and leader.”
Ensor was a captain for John Carroll Volleyball and did not take that responsibility lightly. He always made sure the underclassmen felt included and never tasked with the “dirty work” alone such as taking down the nets. He could also be found helping his teammates with homework or driving the younger players home from games and practices if needed.
Up next for Ensor, he’s off to the University of Maryland, College Park to enter under the Letters and Sciences program and he intends to study business. He may also have an interest in playing intramural volleyball and plans on watching John Carroll play when possible.
About the award: The Kutcher Foundation established a scholarship to honor the leadership of Coach Hetzel who impacted many lives at John Carroll. Coach Hetzel had a true passion for volleyball, and as the coach at John Carroll, he developed leaders both on and off of the court. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior on the men’s volleyball team whose leadership skills were greatly influenced by their experience with the volleyball program.
