CHUCK GREEN ANNOUNCED AS 2022 SIMPERS AWARD RECIPIENT
April 27, 2022
At the Annual Harford Men’s Baseball League (HMBL) Bull Roast, Chuck Green, an umpire since 1976, was announced as the fifth recipient of The John Simpers Baseball Service Award.
Green started out by umpiring high school games in Houston before continuing at the same level in the 1980’s in Richmond, Virginia.
In 1986, Green began to umpire games at the college level in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After moving to Bel Air, Maryland in 1996, he continued to umpire both college and high school games.
You can still find Green doing games at the high school level as well as for The HMBL.
In addition to Green winning The John Simpers Baseball Service Award, The Kutcher Foundation will provide a stipend to upcoming youth umpire, C.J. Nimmo so that he can purchase new umpiring gear.
Nimmo attends Swan Creek High School and is in his first year of umpiring. His mentor is his dad who has been umpiring for over a decade within Harford County.
After speaking with his dad, he decided to pursue umpiring and is looking forward to getting on the field and learning how to call balls and strikes with confidence. His plan is to work most of this year with his dad and continue to sharpen his skills.

ABOUT JOHN SIMPERS: John Simpers exemplified service to his community through his leadership and support of the amateur baseball umpire associations he helped organize, lead, and sustain for nearly five decades. John’s service was instrumental in establishing a top tier high school umpiring program, including the recruiting, training, scheduling, and management for our county’s youth and the famed Susquehanna League. His love of the game translated in a desire for every player to have a positive experience … from the starting shortstop to the bench player hoping to get on the field. John went the extra mile to make a difference in the lives and experiences of those around him, through his passion for baseball, softball, and umpiring.
