The Kutcher Foundation in collaboration with the Toms’ family and the Evangelical Christian School Athletic Department have started The Brent Toms Legacy Project.

On Sunday, December 20, 2020 following a watercraft accident in Fort Myers, Richard Brent Toms passed away at the age of 47. Toms was an avid baseball fan and a beloved Coach for the Sentinels baseball team at Evangelical Christian School. He was also a valued member of the Lee County Code Enforcement Office.

The project consists of several different initiatives that will allow Brent’s legacy to live on for many years to come.

Lakes Park Bench

Early in 2021, The Kutcher Foundation provided funds for Lakes Park in Fort Myers, Florida to erect and maintain a Brent Toms Memorial Bench.

Brent and his family made Lakes Park a part of their family over the years, so this bench will give them great comfort knowing a part of him will always be there that they can visit.

The Brent Toms Memorial Volleyball Tournament

On May 22, 2021, the first Brent Toms Memorial Volleyball Tournament will take place at The Southwest Florida Christian Academy. The Tournament will be hosted by The Florida Conquer Volleyball Club.

The Kutcher Foundation has committed $1,000 to help support all operations of the tournament. In addition, they will assist in promotion of the tournament.

The hope is that this tournament will become an annual event that continues to grow for many years to come!

The Brent Toms Baseball Legacy Award

Brent Toms was an avid baseball fan and a beloved Coach for the Sentinels baseball team at Evangelical Christian School in Fort Myers, Florida.

Starting in 2021, a graduating senior on the ECS baseball team will be given The Brent Toms Baseball Legacy Award. The winner will be someone who exhibits some of Brent’s values such as working hard and being committed to the game of baseball. It is not necessarily going to be the best player on the team; it will be the player who works to make their teammates better.

The Kutcher Foundation will provide a $1,000 scholarship to the Senior selected.

Future Projects

  • The Brent Toms Continual Community is currently being finalized by ZPD Solutions, LLC. This community will provide an online platform for friends and family of Brent to come together to share memories, stay connected, and keep his legacy alive for many years to come through events, fundraisers, scholarships, and more.
  • There is a golf outing in the works where proceeds will benefit the Toms’ family. More info to come when available.
