The Kutcher Foundation is proud to announce that Ben Martin, a senior at C. Milton Wright High School, has been named the 2020 recipient of the COL John F. Kutcher, Sr. Military Leadership Award.
Martin becomes the fourth recipient of the award joining Andrew Flaherty (2017), Ryan Lepp (2018) and Aubrey Hoover (2019).
“It is an incredible honor to receive this award,” said Martin. “COL Kutcher lead a selfless life of service to his community, state and nation, and winning this award empowers me to do the same.”
After graduation, Martin will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he will be studying Aeronautical Engineering.
Martin says he found out about the U.S. Air Force Academy in 7th grade, when his older brother entered as part of the class of 2019.
“During the many times my family and I visited him, my love for the Academy grew. I could see myself being a part of it a few years down the road. By working hard at my academics, athletics, and extracurriculars in high school, I was able to make that a reality.”
Following the Academy, Martin plans to earn a spot as a fighter pilot.
About the Award: Following the passing of Colonel John “Jack” F. Kutcher, Sr. at his home on February 17, 2017, the Kutcher Foundation established this scholarship in his honor to carry on his legacy of service to our community and country. Colonel Kutcher led a life of service, and this award recognizes a graduating student from C. Milton Wright High School who has demonstrated a commitment to service and leadership to our armed forces. The student must be entering military service following graduation by either enlisting full time, joining the national guard, attending a US Service Academy or participating in a college ROTC program. The award carries a $1000 scholarship.
